My Approach

At the core of my approach is the belief that you are not a problem to be solved, but a multifaceted individual with a unique life story interwoven in complex ways with the lives of others. I understand our work together as promoting self-understanding and restoring agency, helping you to find relief and to live a meaningful life consistent with what you value most.

I prescribe with a gentle and holistic approach that is collaborative, nonjudgmental, and driven by curiosity and respect. Before we even discuss potential medications, I help you explore your feelings about taking psychiatric medications. I help you understand what to expect based on the scientific evidence, but I also help you consider how your hopes or concerns about a medication may speak louder than the science. We explore how your cultural background, unique aspects of your identity, and intergenerational experiences may shape not only your symptoms, but your experience of treatment. We tailor our work to who you are as a whole person, not just the symptoms you are experiencing, moving at your pace to reach decisions that feel informed, thoughtful, and individualized.

I offer individual psychotherapy sessions, either combined with medications or as a standalone, medication-free option. Depending on your needs and preferences, I use either an open-ended, psychodynamic approach or a more structured and time-limited approach based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Regardless of the modality, we collaborate to help you identify clear, achievable goals that feel authentic and nuanced. If you are already working with a therapist, I am happy to collaborate closely with them to help guide your treatments.

As part of my holistic approach, I integrate into every visit personalized lifestyle medicine. This may include improving your habits around sleep, diet, and physical exercise, or finding ways to feel connected to the natural world, or to the important people in your life, or to your spiritual or religious beliefs. I help you make changes that resonate with your upbringing and celebrate your heritage in ways that support your mental health and wellbeing.

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I believe in many different paths to healing, that can draw on different tools and perspectives, but that ultimately need to align and resonate with who you are — and where you want to go.
